3rd and 4th Grades U.S. Regions Road Trip Research Project Description:
This was a collaborative project between Ms. Frachetti, teacher-librarian and 3rd-4th grade teachers: Ms. Beckwith and Mrs. Gasamis. Students were organized into research groups according to the 5 geographic regions of the U.S. (Northeast, Southeast, Midwest, Southwest and West). Each group researched the following categories of topics for their region: 1) Geography (landforms, landmarks, weather, animals/habitats; 2) Economy (resources, industry, imports/exports; 3) Culture (people, traditions, food, art, music); 4) Issues (currents events, history, natural disasters common in area).
Each student chose one topic for their region to research and report on. Then, students were asked to choose a "location" to report from and use keyword searching strategies to find an appropriate image to represent their location. Students learned how to save their images from Google or Bing to their own folder on the Roberts server. Then, students were filmed using Photobooth software in front of a "green screen" so their location pictures could be projected behind them as though they were reporting "on location." US Regions Road Trip Videos: When you click the play button, the video will play from the beginning. It just appears to be set in the middle. Please be patient, it may take a few minutes to load!
